Welcome to the world of Kim Mitchell.

Kim started her career at the age of seventeen in front of the camera, as a model. She left South Africa in 1984 for a one year consignment in Germany, before moving to the U.S.A, where she was based in Los Angeles for the next five years. Throughout this time, her love for photography grew and she found herself behind a camera much of the time.

In 1990, she returned home to study interior design at Boston House College. A few years later, she became a partner in a landscaping company, where she excelled at design and layout.

Kim’s modelling experience combined with her design background, her eye for detail and composition then led her into full time photography, which is her passion.

Currently, Kim runs her photography business from her home base in Cape Town. She concentrates mainly on child and family portraiture, where her own two children have provided much of her inspiration, while also having done a number of children’s fashion shoots.

“I love capturing the mood created by beams of sunlight that dance across my subjects, I like to say that I make pictures rather than take them…”
